A University of Ibadan (UI) political science graduate has earned an MBA from Miva Open University, 19 years after she lost her master's admission from her alma mater. The woman, identified as Piriye Gogo, shared her inspiring journey on LinkedIn, detailing how she overcame the challenges of balancing family, work, and education.
The Lost Admission
Gogo graduated from UI in 2007 and initially secured a master's admission at the same university. However, shortly after her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program, she discovered she was expecting her first child. The stress of commuting and demanding coursework took a toll on her health, leading her to defer the program. After her baby arrived, she was unable to return, losing both her admission and her dream of earning a master's degree fresh out of school.
Discovering Miva Open University
Eighteen years later, Gogo discovered Miva Open University through her husband, who had enrolled in another degree program. She accompanied him to his matriculation ceremony and was captivated by the setup, the excitement of the matriculants, and the inspiring speeches. In that moment, she decided to attend Miva. With encouragement from her family, former manager, and colleagues, she registered for the MBA program in Entrepreneurship and Innovation, joining the January 2025 cohort.
Flexibility and Challenges
Gogo praised the flexibility of the program, which allowed her to attend classes, study, and complete assignments at her own pace. She managed to juggle work, family, and school through proper time management. Despite challenges, tears, and moments of doubt, she affirmed that the journey was worth it. Her story has garnered reactions from social media users, including Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane PAYE, Similoluwa Awe, Kene Ujam, and Loveth Thomas, who congratulated her on her achievement.
