UI Student Finally Graduates After 16 Years

A Nigerian lady, Deborah, has celebrated her graduation from the University of Ibadan after a 16-year academic journey that began in 2010. She shared her story exclusively with Legit.ng, detailing how she overcame multiple setbacks to finally earn her degree.

From 2010 to 2026: A Journey of Resilience

Deborah, known as @_4thframe on TikTok, first gained admission into the University of Ibadan in 2010 to study Human Nutrition and Dietetics. However, in her second year, she was asked to withdraw from the faculty after failing a Chemistry course. She transferred to Geography, but encountered registration issues. She was advised to drop some Geology courses and replace them with Archaeology and Anthropology courses, but the changes were not reflected on her portal. Consequently, she received zero scores for the Geology courses she did not sit for, which affected her CGPA, and she was advised to withdraw from the university in 2013.

Determined to Return

Despite this setback, Deborah remained determined to earn a degree from the University of Ibadan. She continued applying through JAMB over the years, and in 2020, after several attempts, she was admitted again. She said, “What motivated me to return was the belief that one setback didn't have to define my future. Starting over wasn't easy, but I was determined to finish what I had set out to achieve. Looking back now, I'm grateful I kept going because the journey taught me resilience, patience, and perseverance.”
