Suspected bandits have killed 10 people and injured 11 others during an attack on a burial gathering in Angwan Magaji village, Kamaru Ward, Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. Among the dead are children as young as four years old.
Attack Details
According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the attack was carried out by suspected armed Fulani bandits. The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, June 17, 2026, when assailants stormed the community and opened fire on mourners attending a burial ceremony.
Troops deployed under Operation Enduring Peace responded to a distress call and rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they discovered that two residents had been killed, while three others sustained varying degrees of injury. The wounded were evacuated to the Primary Health Care Centre in Barkin Kogi for medical treatment.
Casualties
The National Publicity Secretary of the Irigwe Youth Movement, Joseph Chudu Yonkpa, confirmed in a statement that nine persons were killed and eleven others injured. The victims identified include: Jerry Doctor (51), Danlami Magani (49), Sunday Chibi (53), Rita Abdullahi (45), Sunday Elkan (5), Esther Kefas (5), Happy Friday (6), Moses Daddy (4), and Daddy Ibrahim (28).
Those injured include: Halla Monday (7), Mary Yohanna (9), Jummai John (42), Charity Danjuma (49), Faith Yakubu (26), Omi Yakubu (48), Ali Sandiye (70), Asabe Victor (29), Srarina Simon (4), Talatu Sunday (60), and ThankGod Danladi (8).
Response and Condemnation
Military authorities said efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend the attackers. The Irigwe Youth Movement strongly condemned the attack and called on security agencies to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators. “May God comfort the Irigwe people as they seek justice,” the statement read.
