JAMB Issues Formal Apology for UTME 2026 Result Release Delay

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has issued a formal apology to candidates for the delay in releasing the results of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted on Friday, April 17, 2026. The examination body had previously committed to releasing the second batch of results on Saturday but failed to meet this deadline, causing significant frustration among thousands of awaiting candidates.

Official Statement Cites CEO's Unavailability

In a detailed statement released on Sunday by its official spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, JAMB explained that the delay resulted from the unavailability of the board's chief executive due to an important official engagement. The statement read: "We sincerely apologise for the delay in releasing the results for Friday, 17th April, which is the second batch in the series as earlier promised. Our Chief Executive was unavailable due to an important engagement but would be in the office today, and we assure you that the results will be released later today, surely before nightfall."

The board extended additional apologies to candidates who stayed up late waiting for the results, acknowledging their patience and understanding during this period of uncertainty. This development follows the successful release of the first batch of results for candidates who wrote the examination on Thursday, April 16, 2026, with 632,788 results made available through the established channels.

Checking Results Through Official Channels

Candidates have been advised to check their results through the official SMS method by sending "UTMERESULT" to either 55019 or 66019 using the phone number registered during their UTME application process. This method remains the primary and most reliable channel for accessing examination results directly from JAMB's systems.

The delay has sparked considerable discussion across educational circles and social media platforms, with many candidates expressing anxiety about their admission prospects. However, JAMB has reassured all stakeholders that the results will be processed and released without further delay, maintaining the integrity of the examination process while addressing the technical and administrative challenges that caused this postponement.
