Command Secondary School Alumni Association Unveils $1 Billion Endowment Fund
The Command Secondary School Lagos Old Students Association (CSSLOSA) has officially launched a monumental $1 billion endowment fund, aimed at ensuring the long-term sustainability of the institution, providing scholarships, and supporting comprehensive rebuilding efforts. This significant announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of the association's new President, Kayode Ogunsola, held in Lagos, marking a pivotal moment for the school's future.
New Leadership and Strategic Vision
Kayode Ogunsola, who has been elected to serve a two-year tenure as President, expressed his unwavering commitment to repositioning Command Secondary School through strategic alumni engagements, infrastructural development, and value-driven leadership. In his inaugural address, Ogunsola emphasized the critical role of education in national development, stating, "I believe you grow a nation from the family and from schools. Great countries have great schools." He reflected on Nigeria's educational evolution, noting that many legacy schools fell into deplorable conditions after government takeovers but are now being gradually revived through alumni interventions.
Ogunsola highlighted that alumni associations have "come of age" and are taking charge to rebuild schools to their former glory. "The alumni have come of age. They are now taking charge and rebuilding these schools the way they should be. It's our turn to do the same," he declared, underscoring the collective responsibility of former students to contribute to educational excellence.
Endowment Fund and Infrastructure Plans
The $1 billion endowment fund is central to Ogunsola's administration agenda, designed to secure long-term financial stability for Command Secondary School. Ogunsola outlined ambitious plans to upgrade the school's infrastructure, including renovating hostels and dormitories, expanding student capacity, constructing an amphitheatre, and developing an event centre to generate additional revenue. These initiatives aim to enhance the learning environment and provide modern facilities for students.
He commended the school for shaping his character and leadership style, citing the discipline instilled by the institution's system. To strengthen alumni ties, Ogunsola called for a coordinated approach to pool resources and expertise, encouraging former students to actively participate in the school's revival efforts.
Support from Outgoing Leadership
The outgoing President of the association, Taiwo Ayedun, praised Ogunsola's dedication and selflessness, highlighting his proven performance and commitment to the cause. Similarly, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Air Commodore Babatunde Adekoya (retired), described the leadership transition as a continuation of the shared legacy, expressing confidence in the new administration's ability to drive positive change.
