A Nigerian student at the University of Ibadan (UI) has shared her experience attending a meeting of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) for the first time. The young lady, Favour Mitchelle Madubugwu, took to social media to recount her observations and the lessons she learned from the session.
First SRC Sitting Experience
On her LinkedIn page, Madubugwu described the meeting, which took place on April 25, as long but engaging and enjoyable. She noted that she had the opportunity to contribute to discussions and advocate for specific student and campus needs during the sitting.
“I also got to witness intellectual and brilliant advocacy from students like myself, representing various constituencies across the University of Ibadan,” she wrote. She emphasized that moments like this remind her of the importance of student leadership, representation, and the power of student voices in shaping the academic environment.
Inspiring Advocacy
Madubugwu expressed that seeing the passion, articulation, and commitment of her peers was truly inspiring. She added that her final year is teaching her to appreciate such experiences differently.
Her story triggered reactions on social media, with many users praising her engagement. Comments from individuals such as Bisola Ajayi, Temiloluwa Ajayi, and Diana Sodzi showed support and encouragement for her involvement.
Broader Context of Student Leadership
In a related narrative, another UI graduate shared how he initially aimed for a second-class upper division but ended up graduating with first-class honors. He attributed his success to changing his mindset about the university’s difficulty.
