Burna Boy Sets New Billboard Hot 100 Record

Grammy-winning Nigerian Afrobeats singer Damini Ogulu, known professionally as Burna Boy, has become the African artist with the most entries on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 chart. He surpassed fellow Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, by securing his ninth entry on the prestigious chart.

Breaking the Tie with Tems

Prior to this achievement, Burna Boy and Tems were tied with eight entries each. Burna Boy's ninth entry came through a collaboration with Colombian pop star Shakira on the official FIFA World Cup song, “Dai Dai.” The track debuted at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the tie and giving Burna Boy the sole record for the highest number of entries by any African act.

Global Momentum from World Cup Performance

The song gained immense global momentum following a joint performance by Burna Boy and Shakira during the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Mexico. With this achievement, Tems now holds the second-highest number of Billboard Hot 100 entries among African artists.
