Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has opened up about her decision to allow her ex-husband, Ademidun Ojo, to attend their daughter Priscilla Ojo's wedding to Tanzanian singer Juma Jux. In a recent interview with Morayo Afolabi Brown, the actress explained that she put aside personal differences to break what she described as an 'ancestral curse' and ensure her daughter's marital success.
Breaking the Cycle of Divorce
Iyabo Ojo recalled how her own parents divorced, and she later experienced a similar separation. Determined not to let history repeat itself with her daughter, she made a conscious decision to include her ex-husband in the wedding celebrations. 'There's something called ancestral curses. And we Africans believe it. Christians also. And I believe that if you do not want something to continue, you have to be able to break it,' she stated.
The mother of two emphasized that her children's happiness takes precedence over any unresolved issues with their father. 'So I made up my mind: whatever situation that had happened—because my dad and my mom also, you know, were not together—every mistake they had made that I have made, my children will not make it,' she said.
Putting Children First
The filmmaker stressed that her ex-husband did nothing wrong to their daughter, and his presence at the wedding was about supporting Priscilla's future. 'Her father is not dead. He's alive. So why can't he be there? He didn't wrong her. Me and him fell out. It has nothing to do with her. I made the choice to marry him, right? So whatever it is that is going on between me and him is between me and him. It shouldn't extend to my daughter,' she explained.
Iyabo Ojo added that she had 'paid the price' for her daughter to succeed in marriage, clearing her path by setting aside personal grievances. The actress's decision has sparked widespread praise on social media, with many users lauding her wisdom and maturity.
