A Nigerian man has shared a cautionary tale about how his financial situation deteriorated drastically after he began dating a lady. The man, who goes by the handle @sleektru on X (formerly Twitter), revealed that within seven months of the relationship, he was forced to sell off his valuable possessions just to survive. He made a spiritual interpretation of his ordeal, noting that his fortunes reversed almost immediately after the relationship ended.
Man sells properties to stay afloat during relationship
According to @sleektru, his financial troubles began shortly after the lady entered his life. He detailed how he had to downgrade his iPhone 12 Pro Max to an XS Max, and sold his 55-inch television, refrigerator, sound system, three air conditioners, water dispenser, and vacuum cleaner. The only items left were his cooker and washing machine. His living room became empty, and even a sum of 1 million naira felt as difficult to obtain as 50 million naira. Work that normally paid him $1,000 stopped coming in.
“All these in the space of 7 months immediately this girl came into my life.. crazy,” he wrote. “Ordinary 1m naira feels like I’m looking for 50m. Even the barest minimum work that would normally pay me $1,000 stopped.”
Spiritual interpretation and recovery after breakup
The man made a spiritual connection to his predicament, suggesting that the lady may have brought negative energy or bad luck. He stated that he broke up with the girl and within three weeks, he recovered all his losses through a single business deal, combined with fasting and prayers on a mountain. “Since then, I’m always careful of any girl coming into my life, be it friend or relationship. 1 month with you is enough to know the spirit energy you bring into my life. God is good,” he added.
Social media reactions
The post generated a variety of reactions from X users. User @Amon_Raee commented: “You carried spirit of badluck, negetivity, poverty..God delivered you, many girls carry those unclean spirt after following yahoo boys or anscestral demons and are online shouting ‘can you afford me’?” Another user, @mrwayne856, defended the man’s actions: “Selling his gadgets was his only option of surviving at that point.
