Controversial street-pop singer Portable has fiercely defended TikTok star Peller after rapper YCee publicly criticized the 'Olodo Uprising' and Peller culture. In a video posted on his Instagram page on June 25, Portable questioned the financial value of YCee's educational background and accused the rapper of chasing clout instead of focusing on his own career.
Portable Questions YCee's Success
Portable argued that YCee's remarks were driven by bitterness, not genuine concern. He said: 'The time when YCee was reigning, he didn't blame another man. When life dey sweet, you no blame another man and another man no blame you, but now that his life is bitter, he's now blaming Peller.' Portable urged YCee to pray for grace or work harder on his craft rather than attacking a younger creator.
The 'Zeh Nation' boss claimed he owns more cars and enjoys more glory despite dropping out of school, directly challenging YCee: 'You wey go school wetin you use your money do? How many car you get?' He also offered to feature YCee in a song for N10 million to revive his 'drowning career.'
Mixed Reactions Online
The clash triggered mixed reactions on social media. User @Hillary16216274 wrote: 'If not Olodo culture why would mention somebody's name negatively to make a point and claim it wasn't attack.' @skotey5 commented: 'You self need go back to school. Yall worship money too much, must everything be evolved around money?' Others defended education but noted intelligence isn't limited to formal schooling. @samplus6ixsnb said: 'Jokes on everyone who thinks speaking English fluently is the only measure of intelligence. English is just a language. Intelligence is about how you think, solve problems, create value, and make an impact.'
Background: YCee's Comments on Peller Culture
YCee had earlier criticized Nigerians for favoring TikTok creator Peller's content over more intellectually inclined music and art, labeling it the 'Olodo Uprising.' Portable's response came as a direct defense of Peller, who has amassed a large following on social media despite not having formal education.
Portable's retort has sparked a wider debate about the definition of success, the value of education, and the role of money in the entertainment industry. Some users noted YCee's past success as part of the duo 'YCee & Tekno,' while others pointed out that Portable's career has also faced challenges.
Portable's Ongoing Feuds
This is not the first time Portable has engaged in public disputes. He is also preparing for a celebrity boxing rematch against Charles Okocha on July 31 at the Balmoral Convention Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. The bout, themed 'Unfinished Business,' follows their first encounter in 2023, which Portable won. The rivalry began when Portable accused Okocha of failing to pay him N20 million from an endorsement deal.
As the debate continues, Portable remains unapologetic, insisting that success is not limited to those with formal schooling and that his own achievements speak for themselves.
