Nigerian Woman Warns: Sharing Happy Marriage Online Leads to Breakups
Sharing Happy Marriage Online May Cause Breakups

A Nigerian woman, Onyedeke Chidinma, has suggested that couples who share 'happy moments' of their marriage online for external validation often break up faster than those who keep their relationship private.

Personal Experience Revealed

Using her own case as an example, Chidinma recalled a period when she would come online to share happy things about her husband and marriage. While her marriage seemingly appeared perfect online, behind closed doors, their relationship was struggling and marred by frequent quarrels, misunderstandings, and conflicts.

Pattern Observed

“I have been on this social media for so long and I have noticed a pattern,” she wrote in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 11, 2026. “Couples that share their happy moments, memories, lifestyle, love online, end up breaking up, divorcing, or tearing apart after a few years. It is as if the online happy couples' happiness is short-lived.”

Advice to Couples

“I remember a time when I would come online to happily share things about my husband and my marriage; those were the periods we recorded high rates of quarreling and misunderstanding in our marriage. What am I trying to say? Dear happy couple, take your marriage, children, and family away from social media. People can’t destroy what they don’t see. Not every happy comment you see is actually happy for you; many are witches behind keypads. Be careful!!!!”
