The presidency has officially denied reports that President Bola Tinubu appointed Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi to lead a government agency. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to the President, clarified that the so-called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council does not exist under the current administration.
Gbajabiamila's Statement
Gbajabiamila warned security agencies and the general public against associating with Adeyemi, who has been presenting himself as a presidential appointee. The statement emphasized that no such office exists, and no appointment has been made in that regard.
Foreign and diplomatic missions, financial institutions, multilateral organizations, and security agencies have been advised to disregard any claims related to this non-existent office.
Background on Recent Appointments
This denial comes shortly after President Tinubu nominated Zainab Marwa for a position on the governing board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), representing the North East zone. The nomination was forwarded to the Senate for confirmation, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio read the president's letter during plenary on June 4, 2026, noting that it complied with the NDDC Establishment Act.
Public Reactions
The announcement of Marwa's nomination has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians. Some have criticized the appointment, questioning the qualifications and regional representation. For instance, Mamman Mustapha commented on the long tenure of the Marwa family in government, while others questioned why a non-Niger Delta native was chosen for the NDDC board.
Mohammed Shu'aibu criticized President Tinubu's overall leadership, stating that appointments alone are insufficient without tangible results. Alexander Nwaolulu sought clarification on the legality of the appointment, and Cucumber Boy argued that qualified individuals from the Niger Delta region should have been prioritized.
Shariff Hasheem Seedi expressed disappointment that other deserving candidates from the North East were overlooked in favor of Marwa's wife.
