VDM Urges Stop to Reposting Kidnapper Videos

Verydarkman Speaks Out on Kidnapper Videos

Martins Vincent Otse, known as Verydarkman (VDM), has condemned the growing trend of kidnappers posting videos of their victims on social media. In a video shared on his Instagram page, the activist reacted to footage that allegedly showed a kidnapper flaunting a captive, whose face was concealed and hands tied behind his back, while the suspect filmed himself relaxing on a mat.

VDM expressed concern over the boldness of kidnappers, noting that they now openly share such content to instill fear and panic among Nigerians. He argued that these videos are designed to pressure families into paying ransoms quickly by highlighting the suffering victims may endure.

Call to Content Creators

In his appeal, VDM urged content creators and social media users to stop reposting the clips. He stated, "Kidnappers are creating accounts on TikTok. They want to create panic and chaos so that people will be afraid. They know what they are doing." He emphasized that reposting only amplifies the kidnappers' message and encourages further crimes.

"We need to move beyond just talking about these things. It is high time we stopped reposting those videos. We need to shut them down. The more you post them, the bolder they become. As influencers, are you not tired? There is a reason they post those videos. Let us start thinking. It is getting too much. We should consider who is gaining and who is losing. Once we post their videos, they go out and engage in kidnapping again the next day."

Allegations of Corruption

VDM also alleged that corruption among security personnel is fueling the kidnapping crisis. He claimed that some soldiers and security operatives are involved in criminal activities and sometimes attribute such incidents to bandits. He questioned the origins of kidnappings, asking, "Do you think it is Boko Haram or Fulani herdsmen kidnapping people? The people who were carrying out kidnappings before the Fulani herdsmen came, where are they? Soldiers, DSS, and security agencies will raid some villages, and nobody will know."

This statement points to a broader issue of institutional complicity, suggesting that security forces may be enabling or participating in abductions. VDM's remarks have sparked debate on social media, with many Nigerians calling for greater accountability.

In a related development, VDM recently reacted to Pastor Chris Okafor's apology video regarding his case with Doris Ogala. He shed fake tears and became dramatic while interpreting the cleric's message to his congregation, and shared alleged chats between the pastor and his daughter to counter claims.

The activist's stance highlights the need for a collective response to the kidnapping epidemic, urging Nigerians to deny kidnappers the publicity they seek through social media.
