The Nigerian media community is in deep mourning following the passing of veteran entertainment journalist, editor, and media executive Clement Ige. His career left an indelible mark on modern Nigerian journalism. Ige, who worked with The Guardian Newspapers, Nigerian Tribune, and other notable publications, was 69 years old.
The seasoned journalist died on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at his residence in Soka, Felele extension, Ibadan, Oyo State. According to sources close to the family, Ige had been deeply traumatized since the death of his wife, Princess Ige, who passed away last year. He was particularly known for his close association with music legend King Sunny Ade, serving as an A&R and behind-the-scenes figure in the industry.
The veteran media professional is survived by his children and grandchildren.
Colleagues Pay Tribute
Reacting to the news, Femi Salawu, Head of Media and Public Relations at The Temple Company, shared his memories: "Mr Clement was one of the people behind the scenes that made Sunny on Sunday 70th Birthday Concert happen. I attest to how he made it easy to communicate and relate with Baba KSA. He was very resourceful, though very firm lol. We worked closely together during the concert in 2016 and we took KSA through one of the biggest media interview rounds that Baba has ever done. May his soul rest in peace and may God comfort his family."
Ige's contributions to Nigerian journalism and entertainment will be remembered for generations to come.
