Chukwueze Prefers AC Milan Stay Over Turkish League Move

Samuel Chukwueze has reportedly turned down an offer from Turkish Super League club Trabzonspor, opting instead to remain at AC Milan and compete for a spot in the starting lineup under new manager Ruben Amorim. The Nigerian winger's decision comes after a season-long loan at Premier League side Fulham, where he impressed but was not retained permanently.

Chukwueze's Loan Spell at Fulham

Chukwueze spent the 2025-2026 season on loan at Fulham, with the club holding an option to make the move permanent. Despite contributing important goals that nearly secured European football for the Cottagers, Fulham opted not to activate the buyout clause. This left Chukwueze's future uncertain as he returned to Milan, where the club is reportedly keen to sell him.

Trabzonspor's Offer and Chukwueze's Rejection

Turkish side Trabzonspor reached out to AC Milan to negotiate a permanent transfer, offering between €15 million and €20 million for the 27-year-old. However, according to Nigerian journalist Buchi Laba, Chukwueze is not excited about the prospect of playing in Turkey. Laba disclosed on X: "Trabzonspor reached out to AC Milan to work out a deal and are willing to pay €15m–€20m for him, but the player is not excited about playing for Trabzonspor. His main intention was to stay at Fulham, but Fulham did not activate the buyback clause. So for now, Samuel’s plan is to stay at AC Milan and fight for his place, even though AC Milan’s plan is to sell him permanently."

Player's Preference Versus Club's Plans

The disparity between Chukwueze's desire and Milan's intentions creates an unresolved situation. While the player insists on staying and proving himself under Amorim, the club is actively seeking a buyer. Nothing is finalised, and a departure before the transfer deadline remains possible, similar to his loan move last season. Chukwueze enjoyed his time at Fulham alongside international teammates Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey, which influenced his preference to remain in England.

Chukwueze's European Career So Far

The Super Eagles star has played in top European leagues since arriving at Villarreal in 2019 from Spain. He joined AC Milan in 2023 and added English football to his resume during the Fulham loan. His CV now includes La Liga, Serie A, and the Premier League, leaving only the German Bundesliga and French Ligue 1 among Europe's top five leagues. Trabzonspor remain keen and continue to push despite his reluctance, and he may eventually reconsider.

Similar Case: Kelechi Iheanacho

Chukwueze is not alone in rejecting a Turkish move. Fellow Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho also turned down an offer from Turkey after his loan at Celtic. The Scottish champions are hesitant to extend his deal, leaving Iheanacho to evaluate his options.
