Ousmane Dembele has opened up about the possibility of winning the Ballon d'Or for a second consecutive year, as Paris Saint-Germain aims to cap off another stellar season with multiple trophies.
Dembele claimed the 2025 Ballon d'Or after leading PSG to five titles, including the club's maiden UEFA Champions League triumph. The only blemish in that campaign was a 3-0 loss to Chelsea in the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup final in New Jersey, USA. He edged out Lamine Yamal to win the prestigious individual award.
As PSG continues its dominance, Dembele remains among the frontrunners for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. The French winger was controversially named Ligue 1 Player of the Year despite having started only nine league matches at the time of the announcement.
He made his 10th league start of the season in PSG's 2-0 victory over RC Lens on Tuesday, May 13, 2026, which sealed the Ligue 1 title. Dembele assisted Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's opener, and substitute Ibrahim Mbaye added the second goal.
After the match, Dembele downplayed his individual ambitions, emphasizing team achievements. He told Bein Sport: "Very calm, as I said, individual trophies come later, if they come, if they don't, that's how it is. The most important thing is the team titles. We won Ligue 1, the Super Cup, the Intercontinental Cup. On May 30th, we have something great for all PSG fans."
The Ligue 1 season concludes on Sunday with a derby against Paris FC. Dembele stressed the importance of taking the match seriously before shifting focus to the Champions League final. "Yes, that's it, we wanted to win here, but above all, we want to prepare for the final on May 30th," he said. "We're going to celebrate because it's official, we're champions. We'll let loose a little, but not too much, because we play again in three days. We'll celebrate a bit and stay focused."
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently expressed confidence that the club has built a super team capable of producing Ballon d'Or winners for the next five years.
Updated 2026 Ballon d'Or rankings show Dembele as the favorite, with Kvaratskhelia, Harry Kane, Michael Olise, and Declan Rice also in contention.
