Defence Minister Christopher Musa has issued a strong call to Nigerian youths, urging them to take the lead in combating insecurity across the nation. Speaking at a public event, the retired general emphasized that security agencies alone cannot achieve lasting peace and stability.
Youths as Key Players in National Security
Musa stressed that Nigeria's youth population is its greatest asset and must be actively involved in addressing security challenges. He highlighted that young people are often closest to their communities and well-positioned to identify suspicious activities and share information with authorities.
The minister noted that insecurity, including banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism, continues to threaten national development. He called on youths to embrace patriotism, community service, and civic responsibility, urging greater collaboration between citizens and security agencies.
Empowerment and Innovation
Musa encouraged young Nigerians to use technology and social media positively to support security efforts, rather than allowing these platforms to be exploited by criminals. He stressed that meaningful youth engagement through education, skills development, and economic opportunities is key to addressing root causes like unemployment and social exclusion.
Reiterating the Federal Government's commitment to improving security, Musa stated that government efforts alone are insufficient without citizen participation. He expressed confidence that with their energy and creativity, Nigerian youths can help overcome the country's security challenges.
