Rarara Blames Kwankwaso for Nigeria's Economic Challenges
Popular political musician Dauda Kahutu, widely known as Rarara, has accused former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, of contributing to the economic and administrative difficulties currently facing Nigeria. The allegation was made during an interview with online platform SL Update, where Rarara claimed that many of the country’s present problems stem from policies and decisions taken in the past.
Local Government Funds Withholding at the Core
According to Rarara, one of the major issues is the withholding of local government funds by higher levels of government, instead of allowing local councils full control of their finances for grassroots development projects. “Local government funds are the lifeline of the people. They are what bring government services closer to ordinary citizens at the grassroots level. When those funds are withheld or controlled elsewhere, essential services meant for the people are affected,” he said.
The musician argued that the country’s current difficulties began when this practice was introduced, and its effects are still being felt across various sectors. He claimed that the lack of financial autonomy for local governments has slowed development efforts, particularly in education, healthcare, water supply, and rural infrastructure.
Call for Full Local Government Autonomy
Rarara further stated that if Nigeria is to achieve sustainable development and economic growth, local governments must be granted full authority to manage their affairs and resources without interference. His remarks come amid ongoing debates over local government autonomy and calls for reforms to ensure that local councils have direct access to their allocations and greater independence in governance.
As of the time of filing this report, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and his representatives had not responded to the allegations. The accusations add a new twist to Kano politics, where the Kwankwasiyya movement remains a significant force.
