Fred Agbedi, the minority leader of the House of Representatives, has called for President Bola Tinubu's resignation, condemning the government's failure to visit Oyo state following the abduction of schoolchildren and their tutors.
Agbedi's Criticism of Tinubu's Response
Speaking on Channels Television's 'Politics Today' programme on Wednesday night, June 17, Agbedi faulted President Tinubu for not visiting Oyo state after the mass kidnapping. He accused the government of failing to take decisive action against the rising wave of abductions across the country.
The ranking lawmaker described the current situation in Nigeria as an unprecedented crisis marked by killings, kidnappings, and economic hardship. He also alleged attempts to weaken opposition parties ahead of the 2027 elections.
Call for Resignation
Agbedi stated: “The beauty of democracy is that if you are not able to give leadership to your nation, if your government fails, then both those in the minority, those who are free citizens of the nation, have a right to say, you either perform or you quit.”
He emphasized that the government's inability to protect citizens and ensure security is a fundamental failure that warrants the president's resignation.
The full video of Agbedi's interview was shared on X (formerly Twitter). More details are expected as the story develops.
