The governorship candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Rivers State, Blessing Fubara, has dismissed suggestions that his political ambition is being driven or sponsored by any political godfather.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Fubara insisted that his political journey is guided solely by faith and personal conviction, stressing that he does not operate under the influence of any political mentor or sponsor.
“I don’t have a godfather but I have God the Father,” he said, maintaining that his ambition is rooted in a clear personal vision rather than external control or influence.
He also addressed perceptions linking his political movement to internal family and state political dynamics, noting that he and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara operate on different political ideologies and individual perspectives.
According to him, attempts to frame his ambition as an extension of another political project are misleading, adding that his focus remains on what he described as the need to “rescue Rivers State.”
The comments come amid heightened political activity in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections, where alignments and realignments among key political actors continue to generate debate.
Blessing Fubara’s entry into the governorship race earlier this year has added a new layer to the state’s evolving political landscape, particularly given the ongoing tensions and shifting alliances within major political blocs.
