The Chairman of the Accord Party in Osun State, Victor Akande, has confidently stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) poses no significant threat to Governor Ademola Adeleke's bid for a second term in the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial election.
Accord Party's Bold Declaration in Osogbo
Akande made this assertion during a media briefing held in Osogbo on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He claimed that the people of Osun State have firmly resolved never to support the APC in any future election due to what he described as the party's legacy of failure during its previous administrations in the state.
The Accord Party boss argued that Governor Adeleke has successfully rewritten "the ugly history" established under APC rule. He specifically pointed to the plight of pensioners, alleging that many lost their lives because they were denied their entitlements, including salaries and cooperative funds, which he claimed were squandered by the previous government.
Contrasting Records: Past Hardship vs. Present Projects
Akande painted a stark picture of the APC's tenure, citing widespread suffering, unpaid half-salaries, and a multitude of abandoned projects. He contrasted this with the achievements of the incumbent administration over the past three years.
He listed numerous infrastructural projects executed by Adeleke's government, claiming development has reached every corner of the state. A key example he highlighted was the flyover bridge at Oke-Fia, which he presented as a living witness to the state's transformation. This, according to Akande, is the reason for the governor's broad acceptance and large support base.
Dismissing the APC Candidate
In his address, Akande directly dismissed the electoral threat posed by the APC's candidate, Bola Oyebamiji. He based this on the deep-seated resentment he claims residents still hold towards the APC due to past hardships.
"We know what we experienced when they were ruling in this state. People rejected them completely because of the suffering and untold hardship that the APC inflicted on the people of Osun State," Akande stated emphatically.
The Path Forward for Adeleke
Victor Akande concluded that based on his administration's performance and the people's desire for continued development, Governor Ademola Adeleke not only deserves but will secure a second term in office. He maintained that the people of Osun are ready to express their appreciation for the governor's work by re-electing him under the Accord Party platform.
The political landscape in Osun is now set for a heated contest in 2026, with the Accord Party positioning itself as the viable platform for the incumbent while declaring the main opposition party a spent force in the state.
