Senator Seriake Dickson, a national leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has predicted that Peter Obi will defeat President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election. Dickson expressed confidence in the NDC ticket featuring Obi and Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, stating that the party is working harmoniously to secure victory.
Dickson Endorses Obi for 2027
Speaking on Arise Television's Prime Time programme on Wednesday night, June 10, Dickson said the NDC is the vehicle that will take Obi and Kwankwaso to victory. He emphasized that they are confident of winning in a free and fair electoral process. Apart from Obi, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and activist Omoyele Sowore are among the opposition figures expected to contest the 2027 elections.
Addressing Irregularities in NDC Primaries
During the interview, Dickson sympathized with NDC aspirants over what he called noticeable irregularities in the party's just-concluded primaries. He noted that complaints about irregularities in direct primaries are common across all political parties and not peculiar to the NDC. While not claiming the exercise was perfect, he urged aggrieved persons to bear with the party given the circumstances.
Dickson said via a tweet on Thursday morning, June 11, that even parties with a sitting president, 33 governors, and control of political structures, such as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), face similar challenges.
NDC Progress and Technological Improvements
Dickson praised the NDC's progress, noting that the party is just four months old and has been thrust into a tight electoral timetable. He expressed pride that the party has conducted membership registration, congresses, national convention, primaries, appeal processes, and is now in the reconciliation phase. He stated that considering the party's age and the large number of aspirants, they have done quite well.
The federal lawmaker promised that the next primaries of the NDC will be technologically driven to enhance electoral integrity. He thanked Nigerians for their trust and confidence in the party, adding that the challenges they face are not peculiar to them and will pass.
Dickson's Presidential Credentials
Earlier, Dickson asserted that nobody is doing the party a favor by handing the presidential ticket to Obi for the 2027 elections. He stated that he could have emerged as the party's presidential flagbearer, citing his track record. He urged Obi's supporters to remain calm and avoid actions that could undermine the party.
