A philanthropic group has initiated a tour of orphanage centres in Kwara State, distributing essential food items and cash donations. The move is positioned as a gesture of support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's anticipated re-election campaign for the 2027 presidential election.
Orphanage Tour Launched Under Renewed Hope Banner
On Wednesday, 9 January 2026, the Greater Kwara Foundation officially began its Renewed Hope Orphanage tour across Ilorin, the state capital. The foundation stated that the initiative is carried out in collaboration with President Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda. The tour's first day saw visits to four different orphanage homes within the Ilorin metropolis.
Speaking at the Olufolake Safe Haven Orphanage, Dr. Oluwatoyin Alabi, a key sponsor of the foundation, directly linked the outreach to the President. "We are here on behalf of President Bola Tinubu to show that his heart is with you and all the less privileged," Dr. Alabi told the beneficiaries. She assured them of sustained support throughout the year, promising that the foundation would reach every corner of Kwara State.
Substantial Donations and Warm Reception
The foundation's delegation delivered a significant consignment of aid items to the children's homes. The donated materials included 25 bags of 10 kg rice, cartons of spaghetti, Indomie noodles, detergents, bags of semovita, sweets, and an undisclosed amount of cash. The officials stated that these items were intended to support the proper feeding, comfort, and overall well-being of the children.
The intervention was warmly received by the management of the various centres. Mrs. Idris Modinat, the Director of Women Affairs, who represented the Commissioner, Mrs. Folashade Oluwakemi, commended the foundation. She noted that the effort aligns with the social welfare agenda of Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Addressing Rising Welfare Demands
At the Children Reception Centre under the Ministry of Social Development on Pipeline Road, the officer in charge, Jaiyeola Olawunmi, described the donation as timely. She highlighted the increasing welfare demands faced by the centre. Similarly, at the City of Refuge in Gaa Akanbi, the official, Mrs. Precious, welcomed the delegation, stating that the support would boost the children's morale and give them a stronger sense of belonging.
The final stop was the Takasco Life Care Initiative in Budo Ode/Ita Elepa. There, Mrs. Mijisola Balogun thanked the foundation and assured that the generous donation would significantly aid in meeting the daily needs of the children under their care. The event underscores the intertwining of philanthropic activity and political messaging as the next electoral cycle approaches.
