Group Backs Ex-Governor Abubakar for 2027 Re-election

A political group, Youth Forward Initiative (FYI), has declared its support for the re-election bid of former governor Mohammad Abdullahi Abubakar (SAN) in 2027, describing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate as an experienced politician. The group, in a press statement on Friday, highlighted Abubakar's prudence and ability to navigate the economic meltdown while keeping the administration running amid dwindled resources.

Reasons for Support

The leader of the group, Garba Musa, outlined reasons why the state electorate should back Abubakar for the development of Bauchi State. He emphasized that leadership is not an experiment, noting that Abubakar previously served as governor and possesses practical knowledge of governance, public administration, policy implementation, and resource management.

Musa stated: “At a time when Bauchi State requires tested leadership, we believe experience remains a valuable asset. His administration governed during one of the most difficult economic periods in Nigeria’s history. Despite recession, declining federal allocations, inflation, and inherited liabilities, government institutions continued to function and public resources were managed with caution and responsibility.”

Financial Discipline and Institutional Governance

According to Musa, Abubakar demonstrated commitment to institutional governance and due process. He said the former governor introduced reforms aimed at strengthening government institutions and reducing waste. Musa added: “We believe Bauchi State deserves leaders who understand the value of public funds and the importance of financial discipline.”

Youth-Focused Programmes

The group also stressed the need for leadership that can create opportunities, attract investment, support entrepreneurship, and expand economic opportunities for the next generation. Musa concluded: “We believe his experience and network position him to engage development partners, investors, and stakeholders capable of supporting youth-focused programmes.”
