PDP Leader Urges Abians to Reject APC in 2027 Elections

Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Abia State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has made a fervent appeal to residents of Abia State to reject the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2027 general elections. Speaking during an interaction with journalists in Umuahia, the state capital, Emeka-Yellow asserted that the PDP is firmly established in Abia and will present credible, competent, and people-oriented candidates for all electoral positions in 2027.

Criticism of APC's Performance

Emeka-Yellow did not mince words in his assessment of the APC's tenure, describing it as a "monumental failure and a tragic experiment" that has inflicted untold hardship on Nigerians. He highlighted several areas where he believes the APC government has failed, including unprecedented economic decline, rising insecurity, institutional decay, and a collapse of public trust. According to him, millions of Nigerians are struggling to afford basic necessities due to inflation eroding incomes, skyrocketing unemployment, and businesses shutting down.

He argued that a government that has failed to improve the lives of its citizens over 11 years cannot be trusted with even one more day in office. Emeka-Yellow also expressed concern over the systemic weakening of democratic institutions, particularly the judiciary, accusing the APC of undermining their independence and promoting a culture of impunity and propaganda.

Call for Unity and Vigilance

Urging Abians to be vigilant and discerning, Emeka-Yellow vowed that under no circumstances should Abia State fall into the hands of the APC. He alleged that the APC is "ganging up against the development strides going on in Abia state now" and warned that a vote for the APC would be a vote for hardship, stagnation, and regression. He emphasized the need to prevent the failures of the APC-controlled federal government from being imported into Abia State.

Emeka-Yellow called on political leaders in Abia State, regardless of party affiliation, to rise above partisan interests and unite in defense of democracy. He extended a hand of collaboration to other opposition forces and parties in the state, urging them to work jointly in resisting any attempt by the APC to infiltrate, destabilize, or dominate the political space undemocratically.

PDP's Internal Dynamics and Leadership

Addressing his PDP faithful, Emeka-Yellow urged for calm, unity, and steadfast support for the leadership of the Kabiru Turaki-led National Working Committee. He assured them that the PDP is repositioned, reinvigorated, and ready to rescue Nigeria from misrule by 2027. When questioned about the legitimacy of the Turaki-led PDP national leadership, which is reportedly not recognized by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Emeka-Yellow explained that Turaki has appealed to the Supreme Court to challenge a lower court verdict that annulled his emergence based on the PDP Ibadan Convention.

He expressed hope that Turaki would win the appeal at the Supreme Court. Regarding his own position, Emeka-Yellow clarified that he became the state Caretaker Committee Chairman after Elder Abraham Amah was removed as the state chairman on May 25, 2025, by an Abia State High Court sitting in Bende.

Emeka-Yellow's faction of the PDP is aligned with Kabiru Tanimu Turaki at the national level, whose emergence was annulled by the court but is currently under appeal at the Supreme Court. This internal party dynamic adds a layer of complexity to the political landscape as Abia State gears up for the 2027 elections.
