Reps Minority Caucus Appoints Ogene as Spokesperson

The Minority Caucus in the House of Representatives has appointed Afam Victor Ogene as its spokesperson. The appointment was approved during an online meeting of the caucus held yesterday.

The Minority Leader of the caucus, Mr. Fredrick Agbedi, made this known in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja. Ogene, a ranking lawmaker representing Ogbaru Federal Constituency of Anambra State and leader of the Nigeria Democratic Party caucus in the House, succeeds to the role at a time the opposition bloc says it is seeking to strengthen its engagement with Nigerians on key national issues.

The caucus described him as an experienced parliamentarian with a deep understanding of legislative processes and a strong commitment to democratic ideals. It also cited his background as an award-winning journalist and editor as a key asset that would enhance the caucus’ communication strategy and public engagement.

As spokesperson, Ogene will be responsible for articulating the positions of the Minority Caucus on national issues, communicating its activities to the public, and promoting its constitutional role of holding the executive accountable. The caucus expressed confidence that his appointment would bolster its interaction with citizens and reinforce the principles of checks and balances in the 10th National Assembly.

It further urged members of the media and the public to accord him the necessary support as he discharges his new responsibilities on behalf of the caucus.
