Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has issued a directive requiring all political appointees aspiring for elective positions to resign from their posts before April 24, 2026. This instruction aligns with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended).
Official Statement
In a statement released on Wednesday morning, the governor's media aide, Mukhtar Gidado, conveyed the directive. The statement emphasized that appointees must hand over all government property to the appropriate officers within their respective ministries, departments, and agencies.
“In compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 (as amended), the Bauchi State Government hereby advises all political appointees who intend to contest for any elective position in the forthcoming party primary elections to resign their appointments on or before Friday, April 24, 2026, if they have not already done so,” Gidado said.
Legal Compliance
The directive is in accordance with statutory requirements governing the participation of public office holders in electoral processes. It aims to ensure full compliance with the law and maintain the integrity of the electoral system.
Governor Mohammed expressed his appreciation to the affected appointees for their service and contributions to the development of Bauchi State. He wished them success in their future political endeavors.
Notable Resignation
Prior to this directive, Hon. Nuhu Zaki, former Commissioner of Water Resources, had already resigned from his position before March 31, 2026, to contest for the Bauchi Central Senatorial District seat.
