President Bola Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, subject to confirmation by the Senate. The announcement was made by presidential media aide Bayo Onanuga in a statement released on Thursday, April 30.
According to Onanuga, the nomination has been transmitted to the Senate for screening and confirmation in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution. This development follows the resignation of the former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue an elective office.
Background of the Nominee
Joseph Tegbe hails from Oyo State and is recognized as a fiscal and economic reform expert with over 35 years of experience spanning both the public and private sectors. His extensive background includes work in fiscal policy, economic reforms, and strategic management.
Presidential Expectations
Onanuga stated that President Tinubu expects the Minister-Designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear in advancing critical reforms within the power sector. The President aims to deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians by addressing the challenges in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
The nomination marks a significant step in the administration's efforts to revitalize the power sector, which has long been plagued by inefficiencies and underperformance. Stakeholders await the Senate's screening process, which will determine Tegbe's suitability for the role.
