Don't Blame Akpabio, Otu for Electoral Defeat, Ekpenyong Tells Ayade
Don't Blame Akpabio, Otu for Electoral Defeat

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Cross River State, Ekpenyong, has called on former Governor Ben Ayade to accept responsibility for his political setbacks rather than attributing them to others. In a statement, Ekpenyong responded to recent remarks credited to Ayade, which allegedly linked his electoral challenges to the influence of Governor Bassey Otu and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Electoral Outcomes and Voter Choice

Ekpenyong maintained that electoral outcomes should be viewed within the broader context of voter choice and political dynamics within the state. He noted that the 2023 general elections in Cross River reflected a range of factors, including party performance, campaign strategy, underhand dealings, manipulations, and local political alignments. He emphasized that internal cohesion within the party remains crucial for future success.

The Cross River North Senatorial Contest

Referencing the senatorial contest in Cross River North, Ekpenyong pointed out that Ayade’s loss to Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe demonstrated the competitive nature of the race. He added that such outcomes are part of democratic processes and should not be blamed on individuals.

Call for Unity and Constructive Engagement

Ekpenyong also called for unity within the APC, urging party stakeholders to focus on strengthening structures and supporting the administration of Governor Otu. He stressed that constructive engagement, rather than public disagreements, would better serve the interests of the party and the state. He further emphasized the need for political actors to promote cooperation and accountability as the party prepares for future electoral contests.
