Akure APC Leaders Demand Indigene as Next Ondo Governor After Aiyedatiwa
Leaders and elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure South Local Council of Ondo State have publicly declared their support for an indigene of the town to emerge as the next governor following the tenure of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. This declaration was made over the weekend, with the party leaders reaffirming their loyalty to both President Bola Tinubu and Governor Aiyedatiwa while emphasizing the principles of equity, fairness, and political inclusiveness.
Communiqué Issued After Stakeholders' Meeting
According to a communiqué released after a stakeholders' meeting held in Akure, the state capital, under the leadership of Prince Tony Ala, the community is now ripe and deserves an opportunity to produce the next governor of Ondo State. The communiqué was signed by Prince Tony Ala alongside other prominent party leaders, including Sunday Adejuyigbe, Ifedayo Ologometa, Dele Faboro, Idowu Otetubi, and Femi Bello. Additional signatories were Elder Micheal Olusanya Ojuola, Ifedayo Adewole, Oluranti Fakinlede, Sunday Faleye, Muyiwa Adebayo, Enas Mohammed, Francis Belonwu, Rev. Abisola Oluwatayo, and Mr. Ayo Alabi.
Academic Perspective on Ondo State's Economic Potential
In a separate development, Associate Professor Solomon Tai Okajare of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Osun State, highlighted that Ondo State has no moral or logical justification to remain among Nigeria's economically struggling states. Speaking over the weekend, Okajare, an expert in African socio-cultural, diplomatic, and military history, argued that given the state's abundant natural and human resources, alongside its substantial economic potential, Ondo ought to rank among the high-flying states in the country.
He delivered these remarks during a lecture titled 'Unlocking Subnational Economic Power: Practical Pathways for Sustainable Economic Growth in Ondo State' as part of a lecture series and induction of new members into Club Elan in Akure. Okajare dissected the paradox of poverty amid plenty in the Sunshine State, noting that Ondo's fertile lands, extensive coastline, oil and bitumen deposits, and diverse tourism attractions should position it as what he described as an 'economic gem' among its peers in Nigeria.
