Jigawa Government Addresses Allegations of High-Profile APC Defections
The Jigawa State government has firmly dismissed recent reports suggesting mass defections from the All Progressives Congress, asserting that party unity remains robust and no verified members have resigned. Officials have labeled the claims as inaccurate and misleading, emphasizing that the individuals linked to the resignations were not genuine party affiliates.
Claims of Defections Dismissed as Inaccurate
In a statement provided to media outlets, Hon. Daddy Ringim, the social media aide to Governor Umar Namadi, clarified that there has been no resignation of any APC member in the state. He stated, "There's no single member of the APC who has resigned in the state, adding that no one has left the party." Ringim maintained that those reported to have exited were never authentic members, with their political allegiance long being questionable.
He explained that these individuals were merely pretending to be party members and were unlikely to support APC candidates in future elections. "All those people who were resigning were not members of the APC already; they were just pretending to be our members, but they were not," Ringim added, rejecting any notion of an internal crisis within the party structure in Jigawa.
Motives Behind Exits Linked to Personal Interests
The governor's aide also addressed the reasons behind the reported exits, describing them as driven by personal dissatisfaction and expectations rather than issues with leadership or governance. He referenced a resignation letter from one individual, which cited a lack of political appointment as a key factor for leaving.
Ringim strongly rejected suggestions that the departures were related to Governor Namadi's performance, highlighting the administration's focus on development through its policy agenda. He expressed confidence in the governor's leadership and urged residents to continue their support ahead of the 2027 elections, stating, "There's no loyal party member who has resigned in Jigawa State; the state is an APC state under H.E Malam Umar Namadi FCA."
Background on APC Unity Discussions
This development follows earlier reports where sources dismissed claims of the All Progressives Congress settling on a consensus governorship candidate for Lagos State ahead of the 2027 election. Insiders familiar with high-level party discussions indicated that no agreement was reached on candidate selection, with meetings focusing on broader political strategy rather than succession politics.
The Jigawa government's response underscores its commitment to maintaining party cohesion and addressing misinformation, as it prepares for upcoming electoral cycles with a focus on governance and development initiatives.
