In a series of Easter messages, prominent Nigerian leaders have urged citizens to embrace the virtues of sacrifice, unity, and hope as the nation marks this sacred Christian celebration. Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, and All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda each issued statements highlighting the significance of Easter in fostering national cohesion and resilience.
Governor Ododo's Emphasis on Light Over Darkness
Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo extended warm greetings to Christians across the state, Nigeria, and the world. In a statement released by Commissioner for Information and Communication Kingsley Femi Fanwo, Ododo described Easter as a sacred season that commemorates the ultimate sacrifice, love, and the triumph of hope over despair. "Easter is a powerful message that no matter the trials we face, light will always prevail over darkness," he stated.
The governor reflected on the lessons from the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, emphasizing sacrifice, humility, forgiveness, and renewal. He called on citizens to prioritize the collective good over personal interests, particularly as the state and nation strive for greater unity, peace, and prosperity. Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum also felicitated with the Christian community, describing Easter as a period embodying sacrifice, forgiveness, and love. In a statement from his Special Adviser on Media, Dauda Iliya, Zulum highlighted that the celebration marks the end of the 40-day Lenten season, a time devoted to fasting, prayer, and reflection.
Zulum reiterated his administration's dedication to improving security, welfare, and overall well-being in Borno. He announced that palliative measures have been scaled up this year, reaching over 300,000 families to alleviate socio-economic hardships. "It is encouraging to note that many vulnerable households have benefited from this intervention," he said. The governor also appealed for unity and restraint, especially in the current political climate, urging citizens to work together for peace.
APC Chairman Yilwatda's Call for National Unity
National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, extended Easter greetings to Christians nationwide, urging all Nigerians to embrace timeless values such as sacrifice, hope, peace, love, and national unity. In his goodwill message, Yilwatda described Easter as the cornerstone of the Christian faith, reminding believers of the redemptive sacrifice and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
He emphasized that Easter is not only a celebration but also a moment for reflection on faith, resilience, forgiveness, humility, and hope in adversity.
