VP Shettima Accuses ADC of Fake Membership, Slams Opposition Tactics
Shettima Slams ADC Over Fake Membership, Opposition Lies

Vice President Kashim Shettima has launched a sharp critique against opposition parties, accusing them of relying on misinformation and political hypocrisy to fuel debates. Speaking on behalf of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at an interfaith Ramadan and Lent breaking of fast event held at the State House, Shettima asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is now in a stronger political position compared to the 2023 general elections.

ADC Membership Portal Allegedly Flooded with Fake Identities

Shettima specifically targeted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its advocacy for electronic transmission of votes, claiming that the party's membership registration system revealed significant credibility issues. According to him, shortly after the ADC opened its online portal for new members, it was allegedly inundated with fake names and fictitious identities.

"The same people who were adamant that we must have electronic transmission of votes opened their portal for membership registration, and it was flooded with fake names and fictitious identities," the Vice President stated during his address.

Opposition Accused of Using Lies as Primary Strategy

Shettima further accused opposition politicians of driving political debates with false narratives, labeling misinformation as their main strategy. He quoted former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, saying, "Truth is so precious that it must be surrounded by a bodyguard of lies." Emphasizing his point, he added, "Lies, lies, lies — that is what is driving the opposition in this country."

Call for APC Unity Ahead of Political Season

Addressing political and religious leaders at the event, Shettima urged members of the ruling party to remain united as the political season approaches. "Excellencies, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the political season is around the corner. We are all political actors. We have to sell our government. We have to stand behind our administration," he emphasized.

Shettima Dismisses Claims of Coercion in Governor Defections

The Vice President also dismissed allegations that governors defecting to the APC were under pressure, insisting their decisions were voluntary. "Nobody is coercing the governors of Rivers, Delta, Kano or any other state to join the APC. It is at their own volition because they have seen the light," he stated, reinforcing the party's growing appeal.
