Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has approved the appointment of Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud as the new Emir of Ngazargamu, just 24 hours after the burial of the late Emir, Alhaji Tijjani Ibn Saleh Geidam. The Ngazargamu emirate was established during the administration of the late Bukar Abba Ibrahim.
The appointment was announced in a statement released on Friday by the Acting Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Mohammed Goje. The new monarch succeeds the late Emir, who passed away in Cairo, Egypt after a prolonged undisclosed illness. His body was laid to rest in Damaturu on Thursday, following funeral prayers attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, and thousands of mourners.
Prior to his appointment, Alhaji Yerima Ibn Mahmud served as the Turakin Ngazargamu for 16 years. He also represented his constituency in the Yobe State House of Assembly and held various government positions. At different times, he was a member of the Yobe State Executive Council and served as Commissioner for Livestock Development.
Governor Buni congratulated the new Emir and the people of the Ngazargamu Chiefdom, expressing confidence in his ability to provide purposeful leadership and foster unity within the emirate. The governor urged the new traditional ruler to use his vast administrative and leadership experience to promote peace, harmonious coexistence, and socio-economic development across the emirate and the state at large.
Buni also called on residents of the emirate to support the new Emir in carrying out his responsibilities, stressing the need for collective efforts to sustain peace, unity, and prosperity in the area.
