Governor Zulum Extends Easter Greetings and Reaffirms Peace Commitment in Borno
Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has extended heartfelt felicitations to the Christian community in the state on the occasion of the 2026 Easter celebration. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Malam Dauda Iliya, Governor Zulum described Easter as a sacred period that embodies the core values of sacrifice, forgiveness, and love.
"As Christians across the world celebrate this year's Easter, which commenced on Friday, I warmly felicitate with my Christian brothers and sisters in the state and beyond," Governor Zulum stated. He emphasized that the celebration marks the culmination of the 40-day Lenten season, a time devoted to fasting, abstinence, prayer, repentance, self-discipline, and sober reflection.
Commitment to Security and Welfare
Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to improving the security, welfare, and overall well-being of the people of Borno State. He pledged that these efforts will be sustained to ensure a better quality of life for all residents.
Expanded Palliative Distribution
In his Easter message delivered on Saturday in Maiduguri, Borno State, Governor Zulum disclosed that his administration has significantly scaled up palliative distribution this year. "This year, we have scaled up our palliative distribution to reach more than 300,000 families in an effort to cushion the effects of the current socio-economic hardships in the country," he revealed.
He noted that it is encouraging to see many vulnerable households benefiting from this intervention, which aims to alleviate the impact of economic challenges faced by Nigerians.
Call for Unity and Restraint
Governor Zulum called for unity and restraint, particularly in the current political climate. "I want to remind you that Borno belongs to all of us. We must shun divisive tendencies, especially during this political period," he urged. He emphasized that this approach will enable the people to embark on a collective path of socio-economic recovery and warned against the enemies of peace who seek to derail community harmony.
Optimism for Peace and Religious Harmony
Reiterating his administration's resolve to sustain peace, Governor Zulum expressed optimism about ending the Boko Haram insurgency and strengthening the existing harmony among the people. "It is heartening to observe the level of religious harmony between Christians and Muslims in the state. I urge all residents to sustain this spirit as we continue to take deliberate steps towards achieving lasting peace," he said.
He commended traditional rulers and religious leaders from both faiths for their pivotal roles in promoting peaceful coexistence and urged them to continue nurturing unity and tolerance within their communities.
Tribute to Security Forces
Governor Zulum also paid tribute to the Nigerian Armed Forces, other security agencies, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), hunters, and vigilantes for their sacrifices and recent gains in counter-insurgency operations in Borno State. He acknowledged their bravery and dedication in the fight against insurgency, which has contributed to the relative peace and stability in the region.
