NGF Briefed on State Police, Nutrition, Electricity by AGFs, World Bank

The Nigeria Governors' Forum (NGF) has received briefings on the planned establishment of state police and strategies to enhance nutrition across the country. These presentations were made by delegations from the attorneys general of the 36 states, the Federal Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, and the World Bank.

State Police Briefing

In a communique signed by NGF Chairman Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and read by Governor Dapo Abiodun after the forum's second meeting, the NGF disclosed that it heard from a delegation of state attorneys general on efforts to support the creation of state police in Nigeria. The consultation aimed to review proposed constitutional amendments and frameworks, emphasizing the need for state police to be constitutionally sound and aligned with federalism and citizens' rights. The governors noted that collaborative efforts and consultation outcomes would strengthen the states' collective position.

World Bank Presentations

The World Bank Country Office presented the proposed Country Partnership Framework (CPF) for Nigeria for FY2026–2032 and the Nigeria Sustainable Agricultural Value-Chains for Growth (AGROW) Programme. This results-based initiative is designed to improve agricultural productivity, strengthen value chains, increase private sector participation, enhance food security, and support Early Childhood Development (ECD). The NGF reiterated its support for ongoing collaboration with the Federal Government, the World Bank, and other stakeholders to ensure successful implementation and deliver benefits to participating states. Consequently, governors approved state-specific interventions and stressed better coordination across health, nutrition, education, water and sanitation, social protection, and family support sectors.

National Nutrition 774 Initiative

On the progress report of the National Nutrition 774 (N-774) Initiative, presented by the Federal Ministry, the 36 subnational leaders reaffirmed their commitment to improving nutrition outcomes and reducing child malnutrition across Nigeria. The forum also noted ongoing work on the National Nutrition Bill and encouraged continued engagement with stakeholders to strengthen the legal and policy framework for nutrition governance.

Electricity Initiative

The NGF received a presentation on the National Solar Super-Grid (NSSG) Initiative, a proposal to expand electricity access through large-scale decentralized solar generation integrated with a national high-voltage transmission network. The governors remarked on the initiative's potential to support industrialization, improve energy security, strengthen state electricity markets, and accelerate economic growth. They reiterated their commitment to ongoing power sector reforms and to strengthening collaboration among stakeholders to expand access to reliable and affordable electricity for Nigerians.
