Eleven people lost their lives in a tragic lone auto crash on Sunday night at Eruku Bridge along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway in Ogun State. The incident involved a Gold Toyota vehicle with registration number GGE722KJ.
FRSC Confirms Casualties
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Afolabi Odunsi, confirmed the fatalities in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Monday. According to Odunsi, the victims comprised 10 adult males and one adult female.
Cause of the Crash
Odunsi attributed the accident to the driver operating under the influence of alcohol and overloading the vehicle. These factors caused the vehicle to somersault and plunge off the bridge. The impact locked the doors, trapping the occupants inside.
Local community members assisted in dismantling the vehicle to recover the bodies. The remains were transported to the Ogun State Specialist Hospital Morgue in Ifo.
Safety Advisory
The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, urged travelers on the Abeokuta-Lagos route to exercise extreme caution, particularly during nighttime driving. He also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased.
