The decomposing remains of a hairstylist, identified only as Kemisola, were discovered in her room at a residence near the Jaleyemi area of Osogbo, Osun State. The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the incident.
Discovery by Co-tenant
A co-tenant, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, reported that he noticed the door to Kemisola's room partially open on Thursday morning, May 7, 2026. He explained that she had not been seen in the house for some time and decided to check on her after repeated greetings went unanswered. He then found her lifeless, decomposing body on the bed.
“This morning, I noticed that her apartment door was open and I called out to greet her, but she didn’t respond,” the co-tenant said. “That was when I decided to check on her, and I was shocked to find her decomposing body lying on the bed. I don’t even know her full name. We only exchanged greetings, and occasionally we exchanged pleasantries as neighbours.”
Neighbor's Account
A neighbor named Jide, who saw Kemisola on Monday, said the stench emanating from her room on Tuesday was initially mistaken for a dead rat, until her corpse was found. Before the remains were removed, a knife, a mobile phone, and an empty bottle of a substance were found on the bed where she lay.
Brother's Statement
A man claiming to be Kemisola's elder brother, who also requested anonymity, said he saw her on Monday when she returned from a trip to Igbajo. “I saw her on Monday, she told me she would come back to me. But I didn’t see her until her dead body was found today. She was a hair stylist,” he said.
Neighbor Damilola's Insight
Another neighbor, Damilola, explained that Kemisola had moved out of her apartment due to irregular power supply and went to live with her maternal uncle. “Kemisola was like a younger sister to me. She was a lovely person. When she came back on Monday, she greeted me and went inside. I was surprised this morning to hear about her death. She left this area to stay with her mother’s younger brother three months ago and only comes here once in a while. Her neighbour might not have even known she was inside until the odour started.”
Police Confirmation
The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the incident. “The incident was reported today. The remains were evacuated by the police, and an autopsy will be carried out. No mark of violence on the deceased,” he said. “But the police will investigate the incident to know exactly the circumstances surrounding the death.”
