FCT Police Command Nabs Former Guard and Accomplice in Violent Robbery and Murder Case
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully apprehended two key suspects linked to a brutal armed robbery and murder incident that occurred at a residence in the Asokoro area of Abuja. According to official statements, the arrests are part of an ongoing crackdown on criminal activities in the capital city.
Details of the Arrest and Investigation
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed that the arrests followed a formal complaint about an armed invasion in January 2026. During this attack, armed robbers killed a security guard and stole significant valuables, including cash, a vehicle, and other items. The suspects, identified as Amaechi Edemba, 46, and Kelechi Nwokoro, 48, were captured between February 12 and 19, 2026, through an intelligence-led operation by the FCT Police Command Scorpion Squad.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Kelechi Nwokoro had previously worked as a security guard for the complainant but was dismissed in January 2026 due to negligence. It is alleged that he conspired with Edemba and recruited four other accomplices from Nasarawa State to execute the robbery. Leveraging his prior knowledge of the premises, Nwokoro disabled the CCTV surveillance system and cut off the electricity supply before leading the armed gang into the residence.
The Violent Attack and Recovery of Stolen Items
During the robbery, the on-duty security guard, Ishaku Marcus, confronted the suspects but was overpowered and strangled. The gang then made off with a range of valuables, including cash, jewellery, laptops, wrappers, and a silver Toyota Camry. SP Adeh reported that the stolen vehicle and other exhibits have been recovered by the police. Efforts are currently underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang, who are still at large.
Police Commissioner's Response and Public Advisory
Commissioner of Police for the FCT Command, CP Miller G. Dantawaye, praised the operatives for their professionalism in handling the case. He emphasized the importance of profiling domestic staff with the police before employment to prevent such incidents. Additionally, he urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities promptly through the Command's emergency lines: 08032003913 and 080289408830.
This case highlights the critical role of community cooperation and police diligence in combating crime in Abuja. The FCT Police Command continues to work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
