Farmer Jailed 15 Years for Hiding Boko Haram Info

A 55-year-old farmer in Borno state, Ali Mustapha, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison without the option of a fine for concealing information about the activities of the Boko Haram sect in his village of Katara, Borno state. The farmer, who had been in custody since 2013, was arraigned at the Federal High Court in Abuja by the Attorney General of the Federation, Prince Lateef Fagbemi SAN, where he pleaded guilty to the charge.

Court Proceedings and Sentencing

Justice Binta Fatimah Nyako presided over the case and convicted Mustapha, sentencing him to 15 years without the option of a fine. The judge took judicial notice of the convict's plea that there were no government officials or security agencies to report to, as his village was an obscure and remote area in Borno state.

Commencement of Jail Term

Justice Binta Fatimah Nyako ordered that the 15-year jail term should commence from 2013, the year the convict was arrested and placed in detention. Details of the case are still emerging.
