Gunmen attacked farmers in Rinyan village, Tahoss community, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing a 40-year-old female farmer and injuring another woman. The incident occurred at about 3:50 p.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2026, while the victims were working on their farm.

Details of the Attack

The assailants reportedly opened fire on the farmers before fleeing the scene. The deceased, Mrs. Hudung Luka, died at the scene. Another victim, Mrs. Ladi Istifanus, 50, sustained gunshot injuries and was rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

Community Reaction

Community member Bulus Rop described the incident as another tragic attack on farming communities in Riyom. He urged security agencies to intensify efforts to protect rural residents and apprehend those responsible. The National Publicity Secretary of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, also condemned the attack, calling for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators. He appealed to both the Plateau State and Federal Governments to strengthen security in vulnerable communities.
