Kano Govt Takes Over Prosecution in Gruesome Murder of Housewife, 6 Children
Kano Takes Over Prosecution of Family Killers

In a decisive move to ensure justice, the Kano State Government has assumed control of the prosecution of suspects arrested for the horrific killing of a housewife and her six children. The state's Attorney General announced the intervention on Monday, January 19, 2026, following directives from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.

Government Steps In to Ensure Transparent Justice

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the family's home in Dorayi Chiranci Quarters, Kano. The victims, Fatima Abubakar and her six children, were brutally murdered. One of the children, a minor, was reportedly thrown into a dry well at the residence.

Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, stated that the government's takeover was prompted by the gravity of the crime. He described the murders as a "heinous and inhuman crime that offends both humanity and the rule of law." The primary goal is to conduct a transparent judicial process that will restore public trust in the system.

Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests

The Kano State Police Command moved quickly, tracking down and arresting three suspects in connection with the killings. One of the individuals in custody is said to be a cousin of the deceased housewife. The Attorney General praised the police's timely intervention as critical to the pursuit of justice.

Governor Yusuf also commended the police for their swift and professional response, which he said demonstrated courage and commitment to protecting lives in Kano. Through his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Governor expressed deep sadness over the incident and assured that his administration would support security agencies to ensure criminals have no hiding place in the state.

Leaders Call for Speedy Trial and Maximum Justice

The government has assured residents that no effort will be spared to ensure accountability and strict adherence to due process. "We are committed to allowing the law to take its full course without interference," the Attorney General stated, urging the public to remain calm and law-abiding.

The call for justice was echoed by the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I Jibrin. In a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media, Malam Ismail Mudashir, the Senator described the arrest as "soothing news" but demanded a speedy trial. "They must face the full wrath of the law. We will follow this to its logical conclusion," he said, adding that he had been traumatized by the barbaric act.

The state government's direct involvement marks a significant step in a case that has shocked the nation, with authorities pledging to see that justice is visibly served for Fatima Abubakar and her six children.
