Two 100-level students have been arrested by the joint security team of Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba, Kogi State, as part of an intensified crackdown on cultism following the recent killing of a 300-level student on campus.
Arrest of Suspected Cultists
The suspects, Fidelis Atuluku (Matric. No. 2026SE1252) and Monday Okolo (Matric. No. 2026SE1247), are both 100-level students in the Department of Social Studies/Education, Faculty of Education. According to a statement issued on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, by the institution's Public Relations Officer, Uredo Omale, the arrests were made based on a tip-off, and the suspects were caught in possession of charms while on campus on Tuesday, June 23, 2026.
“They were trailed based on tip-off and caught in possession of charms while on the campus on Tuesday, 23rd June 2026,” the statement read. “They have confessed to being members of the Juris Confraternity, and that they were initiated before they secured admission into the University.”
Background: Killing of Undergraduate
The crackdown follows a security breach on campus where a 300-level student, Ocholi David Ojima, was stabbed to death during a clash between rival cult members. The incident prompted the university management to intensify efforts to curb cultism and related criminal activities.
Omale noted that the suspects will be handed over to the appropriate law enforcement agency for further investigation and necessary legal action.
Vice-Chancellor's Response
Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, reaffirmed the university's resolve to sustain its war against cultism and other criminal elements until sanity is restored on campus. He advised parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and wards, warning them to be mindful of the company they keep to avoid being lured into cultism.
Professor Usman disclosed that the university has commenced profiling cult members who voluntarily submit themselves to the authorities, sign an undertaking, and pledge not to engage in such acts in the future. He noted that the window remains open for other willing members to take advantage of this opportunity by reporting to the Office of the Chief Security Officer or the Office of the Dean, Student Affairs.
Renunciation Ceremony Planned
The Vice-Chancellor also revealed that a formal renunciation ceremony will be organized as soon as possible for those prepared to publicly denounce their membership of cult groups and embrace a lawful and responsible lifestyle on campus. He thanked security agencies, the religious community, traditional rulers, and voluntary individuals for their continued support in ensuring sanity in and around the university.
Professor Usman encouraged students to continue supporting ongoing efforts aimed at maintaining a peaceful, secure, and conducive learning environment.
