Lady Cries Out Over Brother's Detention Since 2023 Despite No Offence
Lady Appeals for Brother Detained Since 2023 Without Offence

A young lady has publicly appealed for assistance regarding the continued detention of her younger brother, who she claims was arrested at the age of 14 during a police raid in 2023 and has remained in custody ever since, despite committing no crime.

Arrest and Detention

According to the distraught sister, the family initially believed the boy was missing until they later discovered he was being held at a police station along with others who were picked up during the same raid. She alleged that while the other individuals arrested were eventually released, her brother was not. Instead, he was transferred to the Kirikiri Medium Security Custodial Centre in Mile 2, Lagos.

Court Proceedings and Allegations

The lady claimed that during court proceedings, a police officer reportedly testified that her brother had committed no offence. Despite this, the case has faced repeated adjournments since 2023, prolonging his detention. She also stated that the family was asked to provide ₦150,000 for bail, but they have been unable to afford this amount.

Impact on the Minor

She emphasized that her brother was merely a child when the ordeal began and is now close to turning 17. The family is desperate for justice and his release. The lady made the appeal via social media, sharing a video of her brother in detention.

The situation highlights concerns about the treatment of minors in the criminal justice system and the challenges faced by families unable to meet bail conditions.
