A man has been taken into custody after a dispute over alleged public defecation escalated into a violent attack with a cane knife in Greylands, Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The incident occurred on Saturday, April 25, 2026.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) responded to reports that a man had been hacked with a cane knife during a confrontation. Upon arrival, Reaction Officers discovered one individual with injuries. Bystanders directed the officers to the attacker's residence, where he was located and subsequently placed under arrest.
Both individuals were known to each other. According to information gathered at the scene, the complainant confronted the accused for allegedly defecating on a pathway in front of his residence. The confrontation escalated when the assailant armed himself with a cane knife and attacked the complainant, inflicting a laceration to his left elbow.
Suspect's Admission and Evidence
The accused admitted to using the weapon and informed Officers that he had discarded it onto the roof of a nearby structure. A cane knife was recovered from the roof and seized as evidence. The individual was handed over to members of the South African Police Service in Tongaat for further investigation.
Authorities are continuing their inquiry into the incident, and the suspect faces charges related to assault with a deadly weapon. The victim received medical attention for his injuries.
