According to RUSA, the organization received a call at approximately 17:29 from a resident on Valley View Drive. The caller reported that a man had approached his home, offering to sell a 55-inch Samsung television for a mere R350. Suspicious that the item might be stolen, the resident immediately contacted the RUSA Operations Centre for assistance.
Reaction Officers were dispatched without delay to investigate the situation. Upon arrival, they interviewed the suspect, who claimed that his sister had asked him to sell the television. To verify this information, officers proceeded to the sister's residence.
Family Confirmation and Attempted Escape
At the home, a 10-year-old girl identified the man as her uncle and alleged that he had stolen the television while she was inside with her seven-year-old and two-year-old sisters. Their mother was at work during the incident, leaving the children vulnerable.
When confronted with these allegations, the suspect attempted to flee the scene. However, he was pursued and apprehended by a Reaction Officer, preventing his escape. Shortly after, the suspect's sister arrived and confirmed that her brother had traveled from the Eastern Cape just two days prior.
