Ogun Police Foil ₦50m Kidnap Plot, Arrest Two

The Ogun State Police Command has successfully thwarted a planned kidnapping of a Chinese national, leading to the arrest of two suspects. The operation, carried out on June 9, 2026, averted a demand for ₦50 million ransom.

Arrest of Suspects

The suspects, Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were apprehended by operatives of the Obalende Division following credible intelligence. The police acted on information about an impending abduction along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects conspired to kidnap the foreign national and extort ₦50 million. Onwuemena, who worked as an interpreter and driver within the victim's company, allegedly used his position to facilitate the crime.

Swift Police Response

The Divisional Police Officer quickly mobilized surveillance and tactical teams to the identified location, leading to the arrest of the suspects before the plot could be executed. Further investigations revealed that the suspects had an accomplice who is currently at large. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. Police are working to uncover the full scope of the criminal network behind the conspiracy.

Commissioner's Commendation

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their professionalism and swift action. He noted that their intervention prevented what could have become a major kidnapping incident. He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide timely information to security agencies to aid crime prevention across the state.
