Lagos Police Launch Investigation After Two Crew Members Die on Movie Set in Lekki Phase 1
The Lagos State Police Command has officially initiated a comprehensive investigation into the tragic and mysterious circumstances surrounding the deaths of two members of a Nollywood production crew. The incident occurred on a movie set located in the upscale Lekki Phase 1 area of Lagos State on Saturday, February 14.
Discovery of the Deceased
According to reports, the deceased individuals have been identified as Ekemini Imeh, a lighting director professionally known as "GeeTee," and his associate, Ayodeji Walter Odediran. They were discovered unresponsive inside a parked vehicle on the premises of a popular hospital that was being utilized as a filming location for the movie production.
A police source, speaking under the condition of anonymity, provided detailed information regarding the sequence of events. The source indicated that Imeh and Odediran had arrived early at the movie location to install necessary lighting equipment. After successfully completing their technical tasks, they reportedly entered a tinted Nissan vehicle to rest while awaiting further production activities.
Timeline of Events
The production was reportedly being directed by a former Big Brother Naija housemate identified as Boma. At approximately 11 a.m., a production staff member allegedly delivered breakfast to the two men inside the vehicle. At that time, the air-conditioning system was operational, and both individuals appeared to be in a relaxed state.
Concern began to mount later in the day when repeated attempts to contact the crew members via telephone went unanswered. The filming activities continued throughout the day. It was only after the filming concluded around 8 p.m. that their lifeless bodies were discovered inside the vehicle.
Police Findings and Response
The police source described a distressing scene, noting that both men were foaming at the mouth upon discovery. Additionally, one of the victims had visible blood stains around the nose and lip area, adding to the mysterious nature of the incident.
The case was promptly reported at the Maroko Police Station. The police have since commenced a meticulous review of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage obtained from the premises. The bodies of the deceased have been transferred to a morgue, where they will be held pending a full forensic analysis, including autopsy and toxicology examinations.
Official Police Statement
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Superintendent of Police Abimbola Adebisi, issued an official statement. "The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Panti, Yaba, for further and more detailed investigation," stated SP Adebisi. "Simultaneously, autopsy and toxicology examinations are being conducted to definitively determine the precise cause of death."
Context of Recent Tragedies
This tragic incident occurs barely a few days after another similar event in Lagos State. Gospel artiste Matthew Ogundele, popularly known as Segun Praise, along with three of his crew members, were found dead inside a music studio in the Abraham Adesanya area of Ajah, Lagos State. The proximity of these two incidents has raised concerns and highlighted ongoing safety and security challenges within the entertainment industry's production environments.
