A 62-year-old U.S. Army veteran was fatally shot by a woman during a dispute over a parking spot outside a Walmart in North Lauderdale, Florida, on Tuesday, June 30, 2026. The Broward Sheriff’s Office reported that the incident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. at the supercenter located in the 7200 block of West McNab Road.

Victim Identified as Retired Staff Sergeant

The victim, Bart Diguglielmo, a retired Staff Sergeant who served in the U.S. Army, was a resident of Lauderhill, Florida. He was originally from Hammonton, New Jersey. His sister described him as a decorated combat veteran who served as a combat nurse, combat medic, and tactical communications expert during Operation Desert Storm. After his military service, he worked as a professional nurse before retiring. His sister emphasized that he was a peaceful Christian man who would not intentionally harm anyone.

Altercation Over Parking Space Turns Deadly

According to officials, Diguglielmo and the female shooter engaged in a verbal altercation over a parking space before the situation escalated. The woman claimed to investigators that she shot Diguglielmo in self-defense. Witnesses at the scene reported that the woman became hysterical immediately after the shooting, screaming continuously as police began their investigation.

Video Footage Captures Incident

Video footage shared on social media captured the tense moments leading up to the shooting. The recording shows a woman wearing a white shirt exiting her vehicle with a firearm already in her hand. She exchanged words with Diguglielmo, who was wearing a gray shirt and had walked toward her position. The two shoppers repeatedly pointed at each other during the heated argument. At one point, Diguglielmo raised both arms in the air while standing within an empty parking space. As of now, no charges have been filed.
