A woman accused of brutalising a 10-year-old boy in her care broke down in tears after police took her infant child into protective custody. The suspect, Mrs. Chisom Chukwuyere, along with her husband Chukwudi Chukwuyere and a teenage boy, were arrested for brutally assaulting the minor in Awada, Obosi, Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Ministry Takes Custody of Infant
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development placed the child in the care of a family member following the arrest of his mother by operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). A police officer from the State CID brought the suspect along with her little child, Chukwutulumugo Chukwuyere, to the Ministry, where he was formally handed over to officials before the suspect was taken into custody for further investigation.
“In line with established child welfare protocols, the Ministry received the child and immediately commenced due process to ensure his safety and wellbeing. Following proper procedure, the child was subsequently handed over to the family of the suspect's husband, Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere,” the ministry disclosed in a statement.
“Chukwutulumugo is now under the full custody of Mrs. Rita Onuoha, elder sister to Mr. Chukwudi Chukwuyere, who has assured the Ministry of her commitment to take full responsibility for the child and his siblings during this period.”
“The Ministry has assured the public that it will continue to monitor the wellbeing of the child and his siblings to ensure they are well cared for in the coming days.”
Public Outrage
The video has sparked public outrage, with many questioning how someone so concerned about her own child's welfare could allegedly inflict such harm on another child.
